May 27, 1943 3837 Scapanus latimanus This mole, caught in trap but only slightly injures, alive was brought into MV2A by Dr. SC Brooke. I noted marks on the back that looked like molt lines, so decided to keep it alive awhile. Shaded areas on sketch below shows position of areas of slightly darker color (probably new hair). Area most darkly outlined were most sharply defined. Area on head only fairly clearly outlined defined. Two shaded outlines, not and dark The in box and areas, not were indistinctly clearly defined not quite as as the other areas. mole is being kept a galvanized iron that is 12" x16" square 10" deep, containing about 2 1/2" of damp light loam covered by about 1 1/2" of dry leaves. It will be offered meal worms. Mole died, night of May 27, 1943.
