Here we walked up over and around the north end of a little butte, about 3/4 mi. S. of Orestimba Creek. We had entered a ranch and gained permission to drive to it on a private road. The butte is on the northwest facing slope of grassy hills, and the nearest trees are sycamores along the creek. The small gopher snake collected had just swallowed something. The racer was beautifully pink and had no black in the neck region

The shink taken here was found under a rock from the light loamy bank of a small gully running into the main stream from the south, and cutting the grassy stream terrace. North saw, but failed to catch another shink that he said was large and pale olive brown in color.
