Strawberry Canyon, Berkeley,
Alameda C., Calif.
Jan. 10
Janet Failes, Eugene Eagle, Goddard Silverstein, and I
arrived at the northeast side of the stadium at 6:40 am.
Street lights were still on and the sky was just lighted
up enough that we could see that there were many
breaks in the clouds. The roosters were crowing at
the poultry station. We walked up the road, and
heard our first native bird, a Brown Towhee, about
100 yards east of the poultry station at 6:50. We walked
to the botanical gardens, around thru them and
back down to the stadium, arriving there at 8:23.
The following is a list of species seen or heard during this time:
1. Brown Towhee
2. White-crowned Sparrow
3. Horned Owl
4. Varied Thrush
5 Spotted Towhee
