Iriturus similans
Oct. 13 Austin Creek, 80 ft., 1 mts Cazadero, Sonoma C., Calif.
About 15 salamanders were seen in a pool of the creek at the Berkeley City Camp. It I collected five (with the aid of John Davis and others). They are entered as 2693-2697 in my catalogue. Two I asked for bugging (for them will be cleared and stained for skeletons).
The pool was about 20 feet long, more or less spindle shaped, 9 feet wide at the widest, and about four feet deep at the deepest. It was clear and quiet, with with a part of the stream about 18" across and averaging 1 1/2" deep entering at the NW and leaving at the SE where it connects with the main stream. Most of the main stream bed is dry and gravelly. Two of the salamanders were in amphiumas.
