J. Ruagae - 1940
Sceloporus occidentalis.
Dec. 3 Mrs. Vert Zool, Univ. Calif., Berkeley, Alameda, Cal.
About Nov. 28, I looked for nos 2718 (4RF) and 2719
(4LF), the lizards brought to me by George Mansfield,
Nov. 16. I could not find them. Apparently they
have left. Today about 4:30 pm. I opened up
the retreat and found 2712 ♀, 2713 ♂, and 2714 ♀.
No. 2712 was just shedding. No. 2714 has not
been out, except when I took her out, since she
was put in. No. 2713 has been attacking
2712 four times in the past three weeks.
2712 usually stay on the dirt most of the time.
2713 comes inside the window every day
or two and crawls along between the cages
and the window.
Dec. 23 There has been considerable rain the past two days,
including some very heavy showers. 1:00 pm 2712 and
2713 were out. I opened up the retreat and found it
very wet inside. No. 2714 was inside, half buried in
wet sand.
Dec. 24. 2712 and 2713 have apparently been out all night in
the rain. They are huddled (not compactly) into a corner
in the concrete shelf and against the concrete wall. They are
wet.
Dec. 26. I opened the retreat found 2712 and 2714 in com-
partments 3 and 6. 2713 is inside the window. The dry sand
put into the retreat Dec. 23 seems to be soaking from the bottom
up slowly. It is still dry for at least the top 1/4 inch and
not very wet below. There have been some hard rain storms
