J. Roagors - 1942
Plethops wrighti
April 17 Mus Vert Zool, Univ Calif, Berkeley, Alameda Co., Calif
Color records of live specimen, MVZ 37355 (T.R 3239)
collected by G. H. Wright, April 3, 1942, in woods bordering
Mt Hood highway, 8.7 mi SE Sandy, Clackamas Co., Oregon
(Type Locality). Back between Burnt Umber and
Walnut Brown (Pl XXVIII, 9", l). The outer edges of
the area are lightest and more reddish, nearer
Prussian Red than Ocher Red (between Pl XXVII,
5"; j and k), as is the dorsal side of the tail. Scattering
of fine black markings over back and head.
Irregular dorsolateral line black, sides gray
mottled with black, belly with more black
down arrow than gray. V = brownish on account of light
internal organs showing through. B = silvery gray.
Rea body made trackways of this individual
and found that the hind foot drops into the
front foot track on the second step (secondary
overlap). Batrachoseps have tertiary overlap.
This indicates much shorter coupling than in
Batrachoseps. Also, the axis of the foot is thus
the fourth toe same than this in this salamander,
as in Batrachoseps. It runs thus between the
third and fourth in Plethodon. The feet are
bigger than those of Batrachoseps.
