Ennerees skiltonianus
July 8 (cont) Mrs. Vert Zool, Univ. Calg., Berkeley, Alameda Co., Cal.
observe the eggs in place, I would have to devise some sort of contraption that could be opened up.
June 20, 22, 23 I made my such a contraption.
The following sketch gives a general idea of a unit - for one skink. Five such units were
made; 2, 12" x 12"; 2, 8" x 10"; 1, (in around jar) 6" in diam.
spaces between units
actually narrower than
in this sketch -
Soil layer on top of each
quarter of the unit
Nails, by means
of which quarters
of the unit
can be lifted
for examination
of the
soil layers
below.
1/8" x 1/2" strip to hold
soil on top of
bottom board
1/4" to 7/8" layer of light sandy loam
[Part of one top quarter cut away
to show lower layer of dirt]
Units like these were made for the aquaria used
before (p.19), two for each, and one for algalor
mayonnaise jarcker. The soil on top is
occasionally sprinkled with water, taking
care not to let much water (or new water)
7/8" board for insulation
and to soak up any
surplus water that
might be poured on
top or run down thru
hole to allow
skink access to
soil below
