J. Rodgers -1940 Eumeces skiltonianus Mar. 20 Mrs. Vert. Zool., Univ. Calif., Berkeley, Alameda C., Caly. My no. 2486, collected Mar. 17, 1940, Marsh C., 100 ft. 4.1 mi. ESE Mt. Diablo, Contra Costa Co., Caly. Color Records by Ridgway: Wide vertical area, nearest to Dresden Brown (Pl. XV, 17, k), but faintly lighter and faintly more yellow. This is probably one of the lightest brown skiltonianus I have seen. Dorsolateral lines, [tan] slightly grayer than Maize Yellow (Pl. IV, 19, f). Tail [rusty orange] Bittersweet Orange (Pl. II, 9 d) but slightly lighter and slightly brown) ventrally and Orange Rufus (Pl. II, 11, i) dorsally. This color does not completely cover the dorsal surface of the tail. It is of different density at diff- erent parts, tending to concentrate dorsolaterally. Parts of the dorsal part of the tail are brown, but the general superficial impression is that the whole tail of this animal is "red." The distal 1/3 is grayer. The "red" of the tail blends in with the back over the hind legs. One large adult (2503, 2504, 2505, 2506, 2507, or 2508), collected 3.7 mi. SE Mt. Diablo (in the head of Tassajara Cr.) has a stubby regenerated tail, but still has a noticeable wash of blue on it. See this species also in St. Cal., J. Am. Occ. pp. 1572 Mar 2, 1940
