J. Rodgers - 1940 44 Eumeces gilberti dec.3 Mrs. Vert. Zool, Univ. Calif., Berkeley, Alameda C, Cal. cage. I placed 9 teaspoons full of dirt about 3 inches inside the mouth of the tunnel. (no.10 is a male - gonads 4 mm long and plump) dec.4 No.10 was found dead on the floor of the cage at 2:20 p.m. to-day. It is plump and healthy looking. The nearest I can figure is that I injured it yesterday or the day before while trying to take it out of the [tunnel] with the forceps. It now weighs 14.8 grams: 78 + 114 mm long. The ventral side of the tail is (lighter than Cameo Pink - Pl.XXVI,71',g) pink, full length; very pale just back of the vert and (Pale Lachia Pink - Pl.XXXVIII,67',f) purplish, toward the tip. It is Pale Rhodonite Pink (Pl XXXVIII, 71'', f) halfway back. The single (formly blue) scale, near the tip dorsally is Clear Green-Blue Gray (Pl XLVIII, 45''', a). The dorsal side of the tail is nearer Buffy Brown than Pl XL, 14''', i, or the distal 1/3, blending in the middle 1/3 to a color between Pale Citrine Drab (Pl XL, 21''', i) and Grayish Olive (XLVI, 21'''). The back is slightly more reddish than Light Brownish Olive (Pl. XXX, [illegible] 18'', k). Top of head slightly darker than Wood Brown Drab (Pl XLVI, 17'''h); labials between Pale Vinaceous-Fawn and Light Vinaceous- Fawn (Pl. XL, 13'', e). Chin shields nearer white than Pl XXX, 23'', g. Area ventral to ear, Marguerite yellow (Pl XXX, 23'', f) [this area posterior to chin shields] Area on side of head ventral to ear opening Pale Cinnamon-Pink (Pl. XXIX, 13'', f). Belly Yellowish Fluores (Pl XL, 25''', f). Place on the pink part)
