J. Rodgers - 1940 2. Coleonyx variegatus Feb. 7 Mrs Vert Zool, Univ Calif, Berkeley, Alameda Co, Calif I have a male Coleonyx that John Chatin collected Jan 13, 1940, 2 mi SW Rathole, 150 ft, Imperial Co, Calif. It is in a cage (about 11" x 18" floor space) with 2 or 3 Uta's, 2 or 3 Sceloporus, 1 horned toad and about 6 skinks. Today when was at 2:10 pm, with the sun shining directly on the cage (and the lizard) I suddenly heard it squealing. It made at least 3 lunges at a medium large Eumeces gilberti each time squealing. The skink left. I believe the skink had just happened to approach to within an inch or two (or over) the Coleonyx.
