Irrational
Sacramento Valley trip, Mar 6, 7, 8, 9.
house on the I.C. & M. R.R. track. The east-tangent
apole street and a mile with it had also been double-tracked.
The town had now met near the creek and the ground had been cleared there. We also found skunks under rocks or the side of Maryville Butte.
As we got into the hill and went on to try our luck at finding "old friends" who were known to have been associated with the previous trip, we found ourselves in a position where no one knew what had happened. There was some indication that a train might have passed through the area recently.
We drove straight through from there to Arpuckie,
where we made camp at the edge of the creek and saw many of Sand Creek's friends. We were able to get a good view of the canyon and its surroundings as we continued our journey along the creek bed. The water was clear and cold, reflecting the blue sky above us.
On the morning of the ninth we looked for a few miles up the creek but found nothing except some dead trees lying in the stream bed.
