1730 hrs Have set out 40 Shermans on a hillside above Playa Esmeralda where there is mature habitat, then took a shower. The weather has been pleasant today, partly cloudy and warm. Since we have already caught eight Nectarines here, we will probably leave tomorrow as we are a little behind my timetable.
2130 hrs Ate a lot of food at the restaurant, feel satisfied though! We will stuff the remaining nets tonight.
28 December
0745 hrs Arise to check traps.
0905 hrs Returned from checking traps. Collected 8 Nectarines and 3 P. mexicanus. Ed caught 12 Nectarines in the same stand of forest. The habitat was on a hillside, with some herbaceous ground cover, but not over entire forest floor. Quite a few large trees, many vines, fair amount of rocks.
1145 hrs Loaded vehicle after eating breakfast. We will drive to Catemaco, find a hotel, then set out some traps in the nearest decent looking habitat for Nectarines.
1355 hrs Arrived Catemaco. Checked around various hotels and checked into one near the main road (Hotel Cristal 264 pesos)
1600 hrs Completed taking blood and tissues on 6 animals (1555-60). Preparing to go set traps.
1915 hrs Arrived back at Hotel. I have 35 traps out, 20 of which are in a coffee plantation whereas the other 15 are in the secondary growth along the road.
