0810 hrs Arose late.
0910 hrs Finished changing the litter in the live animal cages. I now have ca. 38 live animals to take care of daily. The only casualty this far has been a H. melsoni from Cerro Mezotol. The animals seem to be doing well. The temperature here is pleasant since a cool front moved through yesterday (it rained in the afternoon and evening). Temperature is about 70° F now. As long as I can keep the mice cool for the remainder of the trip most will survive.
1055 hrs Ate breakfast after washing two pairs of pants. Also pinned out the remainder of the specimens prepared last night.
1145 hrs As it stands now, I plan to stay here and trap for several nights, hoping to pick up a series of Vetersmups. I then want to spend a couple of nights in the Tuxtla metros trapping at any available mature habitat for comparative material of Veterumup. Following this, we will move to Ojo de Agua for several days. Then we will drive to Tuxtepec, Oaxaca and trap in the lowlands a day or two more before moving camp up in the mountains in the Ixtlan area for several more nights. This should put us about 7 January. Then we will begin the long drive home to Berkeley via Mexico City.
