1750 hrs Completed setting 60 shermans in mature habitat
ca 100-200 m from the dead end of the road. The traps
were set more in the open (in general) in hopes of catching
more Heteromys.
1845 hrs After supper of chiles, plan to now finish
preparing the series of C. mexicanus and Tylomys as study
skins.
2230 hrs Final entry. Weather this morning and afternoon
was warm. At dusk, clouds rolled in and now it is
quite foggy with drizzle. We hope for no rain
20 December
0650 hrs Arose and quickly dressed to check traps. The fog
is still quite heavy and it looks like it may rain.
Must pull traps and be on our ways
0835 hrs It has begun to rain. There are some places in the
road on the way out that are quite muddy. If it rains
very hard we may be stuck. Of a total of 60 traps,
I caught 1 Heteromys, 2 Tylomys, and 2 C. mexicanus (40 traps)
Ed collected 4 Tylomys and 4 P. mexicana.
David also
caught 8 animals (1 Heteromys, 1 Tylomys and 6 P. mexicana)
0850 hrs Finally on our way out of here.
0940 hrs Made it through the muddy areas before the
road became to slippery. Ahead to Tuxtla (East) we
can see blue sky. We will drive to Tuxtla then to San
Cristobal ( Hwy 190).
1836hrs Stopped for supplies in Tuxtla.
