Duke S. Rogers 1980 Journal the remaining holding traps. 1820 hrs. Total traps out ca. 200 (80, 60 (David), 60 (Ed). All traps are set in likely Heteromys areas. It appears that these Heteromys have a fine microhabitat preference. They are not taken on dryer hillsides with fewer ferns, mosses etc. They are taken only in areas that (at least at this time of year) are continuously wet. They will stand some logging, but are not taken in areas where enough light comes through to drive out ferns + mosses. 2030 hrs. Tomorrow we will pick up traps and leave this local. We plan to get a hotel room and carryotype a series of P. guatemalensis, P. boylii, several Reithrodontomys and of course the Heteromys melanotis. We plan to stay in Huista and trap nearby along road to Motozintla de Mendoza while carryingotype. Hopefully we will collect some H. goldmani 16 December 0650 hrs. Arose and prepared to check traps. The weather is good, cloud banks are below us, no fog up here. 0905 hrs. Checked and picked up 80 traps, all set in likely Heteromys habitat. Collected only a single Reithrodontomys. The animal is very large for a Reithus, but still may be a fulvescens. It has a black eyering, tawny dorsal pelage and dark basal hairs tinged with pinkish ventrally. Tail is solid black, slightly lighter ventrally,
