0650 hrs. Arose and cleaned to check traplines.
0900hrs. Returned after checking light traps. Collected three more very
Heteromys melosini in the areas where it was moist. Also
captured 2 P. guatemalensis in this area. The trapline set on
the drier slope yielded one P. guatemalensis.
1930hrs. After eating breakfast, prepared to take tissue and prepare
specimens of 11 P. guatemalensis. David plans to take the
campbell down the mountain and collect salamanders. Ed
and I will stay here and tissue the animals.
1200hrs. David returned, having collected only one salamander. He
said it was much hotter down below. The clouds are still
below us for the most part, but there is still fog now
and then at camp. This morning David collected 1 P. boylii;
and Ed collected one more H. melosini and 4 P. guatemalensis.
1340hrs. Completed taking tissue and preparing study skins of the
P. guatemalensis with the help of David and Ed.
1425hrs. Finished eating lunch; Ed plans to move a lot of his
traps to better looking Heteromys areas. I picked up a line
of twenty set on the drier (south facing) slope and will
move them to the wetter northwest facing side.
1555hrs. Returned from setting an additional twenty traps
where Heteromys were collected.
1650hrs. Finished cleaning out the cages of live animals I
am saving to take back for cytogenetic work. Will
spend the next hour or so mending clothes and organizing
