Duke S. Rogers 1980 Journal (12) 1230 hrs: After spending some time reorganizing the animals and eating lunch, we are preparing to drive down to the 2450 m local and pick up those traps. 1435 hrs: Arrived back at our base in the 2800 m base camp area. I took another two P. boylii from my trapline put on a steep, hillside with boulders, pine and some deciduous trees (oakase). Ed and David did not catch any animals. While moving the traps holding the live animals, a wire was loosened and one of the Heteromyss escaped. I managed to recapture it however. 1530 hrs: Ed and I repaired broken Shermans and arranged traps. We plan to concentrate our traps in areas near where the first two Heteromys were taken. 1745 hrs: Returned to camp after setting 4's more Shermans on the wet side of the hill just behind a large cleared cut area where I believe vehicles were kept when this road was built. I also pulled out the twenty traps set above the road and moved them to the hillside opposite. Total traps out: myself, 80; Ed, 60; David, 65. Of these 100 traps are in habitats similar to where the two Heteromys were taken this morning. 1935 hrs Final entry today. The weather was cooler today as clouds moved in ca. 1800 hrs. We can see thunderstorms tonight over in the direction of Volcan Tacana. Ed saw three squirrels this morning, David spotted a deer this morning as well.
