Duke S. Rogers 1980 Journal (8) 1320 hrs. Temp. is 14°C on the summit, plus winds of 20-40 mph. Elevation 2850 m. We stopped here to eat lunch. Plan to set out traps at various elevations below. For about the last 3-4 miles there has been good vegetation in spots but the slope is very steep. The road up the mountain as is would be passable in a DVW bus, pickup or Corvallis type vehicle like ours. 1430 hrs. Set trap 8.7 miles below summit in cloud forest (60) 1545 hrs Set traps 3.1 miks below summit in drier forest of Oak and Pine. Elev. 2450m (60 traps) 1630 hrs. We have just finished setting a third set of traps between the first two. Elev. 2700 m. (60 trap) mileage is about 917 1720 hrs. Drove back down to the lowest of the three trapping localities where there is a place to pull off the road. We will camp here tonight. 13 December 0650 hrs. Arose to check traps. We camped at the 2450m elevation locality (10.8 mi NW by road Cerro Mojotol). 0730hrs. Returned after checking 20 traps. Collected 2 Promyces which appear to be P. guatemalensis. David collected 2 P. boydii, and Ed 3 more P. guatemalensis. 0845hrs The last hour was spent caging animals for safe- keeping. The temp this morning was 9°C. 1510 hrs. Due to car trouble, we were unable to check other traps as of yet. The battery had run down and I was unable to start it by coasting downhill (auto-transmission)
