Rogers 1980 Journal 11 December (3) 0230 hrs Arrived Puerto Arista after driving all day and night. 0630 hrs Arose. 0730 hrs Talked with Alvaro Gonzalez (Ali) and did not find out too much concerning the whereabouts of Cerro Muztal. We have located Pinabete on various maps. We plan to drive up to Pinabete and stop today. 0845 hrs Arrived Tonala after having breakfast at Ali's restaurant. We need to pick up ice, tortillas, and drinks. 1030 hrs Arrived Huixtla. 1045 hrs Attempted to drive to Pinabete north from Huixtla, but we informed by several natives that it would be impossible from here. 11:25 hrs mi. 76.5 start : To a road from Tapachula (right left hand) Turn past Pemex in center of town if coming from Huixtla. 11:30 hrs mi. 80.8 cut-off to a hydroelectric plant. Road is good, paved. There are areas of mature tropical lowland forest on either side of the road, although on steep hillsides. ca. 11:50 hrs. Road becoming full of potholes mi. 85.0 - Town of Chapultepec. ca. 12:25 hrs - mi. 97.3 El Eden elev. ca. 400m. less habitat more fincas instead, road now bad (not paved) but passable. ca. 13:00 hrs mi. 97.8 - Finca ? of Brasil. ca. 13:20 hrs. mi. 99.8 Nuevo Aleman. We talked with a man here who stated that the road was not good enough for us to make it up to Pinabete. Instead, he suggested we take the left hand turn in the road we saw just
