Duke S Rogers 1980 MÉXICO FIELD TRIP Journal 6 December (Saturday) 1400 hrs: Ed Neake (EN), David Good (DG) and I left Berkeley for Mexico. The main objective of this trip are to collect Neteromyx and secondarily pick up samples of Peromyscus. Regarding the Neteromyx, I first need to collect N. milozi from southern Chiapas (known only from Cerro Mozotol and Pirakete). The second main objective is to collect tissue samples of Neteromyx from the Catemacos, Veracruz area. EN is accompanying me mainly to learn about collecting in the tropics and take part in field Ranging etc. DG is going along to collect lizards and skinks and to help me rodent trap when he can. We plan to drive to Mexico City to obtain permits, then travel to Chiapas 7 December 0630 hrs. Awoke and prepared to leave hotel. We stopped in San Bernardino California about 2130 hrs last night. We plan to drive as far as possible today and cross the border tomorrow at Juarez, as we must exchange dollars for pesos and the banks will not be open until tomorrow morning. 8 December 0600 hrs. Prepared to leave Hotel 6 South in El Paso, TX. We need to purchase a few more supplies for field work, fill gas and water cans, buy Mexican auto insurance and exchange dollars for pesos. 1030 hrs. We have accomplished the errands mentioned above and are preparing to cross border. 11:30 hrs. After a minimal delay due to self-tap, we are on our way to Mexico City.
