Duke S. Rogers 1980 Journal 10 September cont. Shermans in this area. Majority were set in flat area with some evidence of burrows. Ca. 20 traps were set in a "wall" of small boulders and rocks. [illegible] We also set 20 shermans in the camp area. Many palms (date) and much grass, few rocks. 11 September) 6:20 hrs. Arose and checked traps. Collected 3 mice from 20 shermans set in Palms. (2 Peromyscus & 1 Perognathus) 8:20 hrs. Have collected 10 mice from the plateau. (8 Perognathus baileyi ? and 2 Peromyscus). Will spend the remainder of the morning hauply typing some of the P. baileyi and taking tissue. We did try shooting lizards (ca. 8:30-9:30 hrs.) but the activity was low. 14:30 hrs. Completed cytological work, and have skinned all specimens from this locality. We will load car and drive north to stop at several places were gopher activity was evident. 15:45 Have stopped at Uligains. RS talked to a man who had collected herbs previously and he will take us to alfalfa field where he says gophers (Topos) are abundant. 20:30 hrs. We were very successful in taking gophers from an alfalfa field. Various other vegetable and fruit crops are grown here but gophers prefer this area. Apparently, as many as 8 men
