Duke S Rozen 1982 Journal (36) 0730 hrs Phil got through with no problems - no excess baggage charges or problems with the live animals. 1000 hrs Finally heading out of San José after buying bait for the live trap, cotton, changing money, breakfast, checking the vehicle out for another week and picking up some equipment at the Univ. We are heading for a locality near Dominical - on the coast about 3-4 hrs away. 1330 hrs The road to Dominical out of San Isidro is a fairly poor dirt road and I don't want to risk damage to the VW bus by driving on it for 33 kms (at least) one way. We decided to drive on toward Palmar Norte. 1830 hrs We have returned to San Isidro to get a hotel room after driving quite a distance from town and finally setting our traps at two different localities (see entry further down). 2130 hrs The two localities where we set traps are the following: 16 km SE (by road) San Isidro, 525 m, Prov. San José, Costa Rica The area is located on the right-hand side of the road when going away from San Isidro. This area has fairly tall trees (ca 15-20 m), but very few large, mature trees. The area has fairly good understorey (but only in places) of broad herbaceous large leafed plants from 0.3 m to 1.5 m in height. Leaf litter is fairly thin (ca 1-2 cm). The area slopes gently upward from the road - ca. 10°. The second area is located 34.7 km SE (by road) San Isidro, 525 m, Prov. San José
