August 3 (Tuesday)
0610 h. Arose and prepared to go to the permit office after eating breakfast.
0730 h. Met a fellow Berkeley grad student at our breakfast spot - Beth Baker - a grasshopper ecologist. She is leaving for California today but may change her reservations to tomorrow morning to fly back with Phil. Ed is running some errands while Phil and I work on the permits.
0940 h. The process of obtaining an exportation permit and license went very smoothly. Phil turned a list over with common and scientific names and numbers of animals collected for approval - it was approved rather routinely. We left his cleaned specimens there with the message that there would be more soon arrived so that they would keep the container there in the office. Next we went to the Banco Cuitza (Central Ave + Calle 0) for the exportation license (the place to get this is on the second floor of the bank). This took about 15 minutes.
1830 h. I have spent the remainder of the day working up the remaining animals. I will not hold for taking back to Berkeley. Philo and Tony want to take us to a bar for drinks and discussion tonight.
4 August (Wednesday)
0500 h. Arose and prepared to drive Phil to the airport for his 0700 h departure. We will pick up Beth as well.
