Duke Roger 1982 Journal 30 cultivated crops. We decided to drive out of town. 1350 hrs. We have checked into the Hotel Internacional, mainly to keep the live animals we are carrying from overheating. The road to the south out of Hímon was unpaved and looked unproductive (at least within several hours) so we turned around. We plan to drive a short way (with 10-20 km) out of Hímon and trap in the best vegetation we can find in several hours. 1530 hrs left hotel 1800 hrs Returned to Hímon. We have set traps in an area roughly 5 km out of town. The vegetation is secondary, with a moderate amount of large buttressed trees remain. There is a one meter understory of broadleaf plants, and a leaf litter consisting of very large leaves about one-half inch thick. Interspersed in the mature vegetation are areas that have been largely cut and support a mass of tangled vines with some bananas. We have set up two boat nets and will return after dark to set them out. 1930 hrs Arrived back at trapping and netting locality to spread out the nets 2100 hrs Preparing to leave locality. Collected eight bats (Artibeus lonchophylla? and another species unknown to me at this time) 2300 hrs Turned in after celebrating my birthday with some drinks at a bar across the street from our hotel.
