1030 hrs arrived back at Global after going over to the Univ, via taxi to look at some of my chromosomal preparations under the microscope. The preparations seem to be working rather well. The global people are still gone with the car, but they said that they would have it ready by 12:00.
1045 hrs the car is back - fixed.
1220 hrs We have spent the last several hours driving back across town to the hotel, loading the vehicle, checking out, then driving back across town to the University to pick up the liquid nitrogen tank and some other equipment we will need for field work. We have also stopped to quickly eat lunch. We plan to drive to near Turrialba and look for mature habitat southeast of the town.
1620 hrs After a wrong turn and an hour's delay we have reach Turrialba and drivin quite a way's past it. There was no decent mature habitat near Turrialba so we drove out of town ca. 10 km and took a turn onto Route 232 from Route 18. We followed this road for about 20 kms - going through the towns of Eslabón, La Suiza and turning around at Tuis. There was nothing approach mature rainforest remaining. We have since driven back towards Turrialba, stopping right before the turnoff toward Moravia (Route 232) to set traps along the banks of the Rio Reventazón. The habitat is very
