John Rogers 1982 Journal 25 1355 hrs Arrived San Jose. 1430 hrs Stopped in at the lab. It will be ok to karyotype. 1630 hrs. We have rented a hotel room (Hotel Cocori) for ca $ 400/night. (only a third of the Galileo price). We were unable to obtain permission to trap in an old growth area (old finca) near the laboratory so we plan to drive west of town on Highway 7 near Escazu to trap for Liomys. 2120 hrs Completed set out a line of traps each at a locality 4.6 km W (by rd.) Escazu. The area consists of tall grasses on the roadside, with secondary trees and herbaceous-woody understory with coffee plants off the road. It appears to be good for liomys. After trapping we drove the car to the Global Rental Place and parked it there for safe keeping. The rear door of the VW bus will not close so it is definitely unsafe to leave on the street. 27 July (Tuesday) 0650 hrs Arose dressed and left for Global via taxi with Ed. 0730 hrs Arrived back at hotel with the VW bus. We shall drive out to the collecting local. 0830 hrs. Only one animal was collected (by Phil) a Sigmodon hispidus out of his 30 traps, Ed's 30 and my 30.
