0450 hr. Returned from pulling in all my traps with a total of 7 hionys from 60 traps. I did not catch anything in the 20 traps set in grass !; only one hionys salmon along the forest edge, but caught another 6 animals out of 10 traps placed in bunches of forbes and brush in the field. Phil returned from checking his first line with 7 hionys as well (from the forest). He should do as good or better in the other line for hionys.
825 hrs: Phil returned from the second with no animals. We have picked up Ed and he caught 3 hionys. So we have a total of 17 hionys from the two locals.
905 hr Continued on route 19 to Tiliran. I have a locality for Heteromys listed as 5[illegible] km N, 2 Km E - so I assume the locality was on a road heading NE out of the town toward Arenal.
955 hr Stopped for breakfast at Cafe Nixon.
1030 hr Purchased a fairly nice pair of boots made in Nicaragua for #1,100 colones = ca $18.50.- Couldn't pass that up.
12:50 hrs we drove out of town and have found two likely places to set traps. One is a narrow strip of fairly large trees and mesic vegetation ca 3.5 km out of town. The next is a patch both above and below the road overlooking Lago Arenal. Note: ca 4.1 km before the lake is sited take the right road fork.
1320 hrs Stopped outside of town to process the hionys. Phil put up several alcoholins and we also took tissue on a series (2 skel only + 4 skins).
1530 hrs Drove out to trapping areas. We will take
