Mourera. He couldn't give me any help with Heteromyx localities but asked for some fresh (either live or preserved in liquid N2) viscera from rodents (especially Sigmodon). They have found a parasite that is fatal compatible with humans in rodent tissues and he wants to conduct a survey of many species to determine which species carries the organism. He also wants live animals to study disease transmission. I told him that we were leaving for Guanacaste Province today and would try to collect some data for him.
11:30 hr Hassled with the car rental agency. Of course, they claim that the stereo, speakers, and music are not covered by insurance. (he wanted $35 + $32 + $15 respectively = $82).
I told him we would pay it and asked for rental on the VW bus for an additional week (ends 30 July), and to put the $82 on the bill. We will hassle with the agency later with help of Tony Moreno who offered to do so.
12:20 hr We are finally ready to leave San José after purchasing supplies, buying gas, etc. We tried to report the theft (it occured on Calle 13 just below our window) to the police (Calle 8 and ave 19 on th corner) but they were closed from 12:20-13:00 and we really needed to head out to set traps for hummingbirds. We will go back during our next stop in San José.
