Duke S Rogers 1980 Journal 7 September 0600hs Arose as sun was coming over horizon. We will check traps and shot lizards this morning. 0915hs Arrived back at hotel. Collected 13 rodents including: 8 Perognathus fallax?, 1 Neotoma lepida?, 4 Peromyscus (probably truei and oremmier). Peromyscus were collected in rocky microhabitats, as were the woodrats and some Perognathus. Traps set in very sandy areas yielded fewer animals, and only Perognathus 1030hs Ready to take tissue on animals collected. RS is not feeling well due to the heat. 1630hs Completed preparing today's specimens. We will leave soon to finish measuring vegetation and set more mammal traps and possibly nightwalk for herps. 1945 Arrived at hotel. Finished grid work, measuring 30 5x10m quadrats for vegetation. Put out 40 more shermans at a locality 26 km (by road) Sitio de los Angeles. The vegetation was much more dense and oliveise. large barrel cacti, serios and some mesquite. soil was very sandy ca 15m either side of the road, but became rocky with many pebbles and small rocks (.1-.3m). Set traps mainly out areas between these two soil types. The weather today was much cooler due to winds from the pacific side. Collected an Ammospermophilus in the dry wash locality while rebaiting those traps by flashlight. The individual had died during the day.
