Costa Rica) & asked that we return in one hour 1605 hrs after exchanging some money (rate is now 62 Colones to the $) and stopping for a coke we returned to the permit office. 1635 hrs. left office w/ an approved permit for each of us. 1655 hrs Arrived back at the hotel. Global Rent-A-Car will call us about the vehicle. 1720 hrs I asked the desk clerk to call Global. They have a VW bus for us, [illegible] I made arrangements to pick it up tomorrow at 10:00 or 11:00. Hopefully we will be able to leave early in the afternoon for the first collecting locality. Tomorrow we have to purchase food, ice, try to get a lantern globe, machetter, distilled water, 70% ethanol. 16 July (Friday) 0730 hrs Arose and showered. 0815 hrs left for Mercado Central (location Avenida Central - Ave 1 and Calle 6 - Calle 8). We want to purchase macheten. 0930 hrs Returned to hotel with machetens, water containers. Ed went across the street to buy food for ca. three days. Phil is trying to exchange traveler's checks for Colones and plans to pay the hotel tab. We will leave for Global when he gets back to the room.
