Luke S Rogers 1980 Journal 5 September Cont. mammals. 20:15 hrs Collected sk, tissue on several Cerophatin and a Peromyscus maniculatus 20:45 left hotel to nightwalk for snakes and lizards 22:30 hrs Arrived back at Hotel (see RS journal for account of herps collected) and locality 6 September 0745 hrs Arose and prepared to set up a grid to quantify vegetation. 1145 hrs Arrived back at hotel. Weather is extremely hot (< 40°C). We were able to set up grid, but only quantified 3 of 30 quadrats. Also checked pitfall traps nearby. We will rest during heat of the day, then go out to do more grid work and I will set some small mammal traps. We will also nightwalk for herps. 20:30 hrs Arrived back at the hotel. We have measured more quadrats and RS divided the quadrats in half (5x10m) for easier handling. Also have set 60 Shermans in a wash (7km W by road) Bahia de los Angeles. The traps were set along a dry wash, ca. 3-4m high on either side. Some areas were completely rocky, other very sandy. Numerous burrows in sandy and hard packed sandy soil. Woodrat droppings very evident, especially among rocks. Some evidence of dens.
