Jake S. Pogue 1982 Journal 0645 hrs. We had trouble getting all of our gear taken. We were charged for 3 extra pieces of equipment (the three of each were each allowed two and we had 9 total) at $47.00 per piece! However, I was told that they could have charged by the pound inasmuch as many pieces exceeded the 70 lb. weight limit which would have meant much more money. The agent told us our baggage would be checked through to San Jose, Costa Rica. 0730 hrs. Finally took off from San Francisco after traffic delays on the runway. 10:45 Disboarded the plane to catch another flight of American's for Miami at DFW airport, - only about 16 minutes to spare. @16:45 hrs. (Miami time) arrived Miami. We have a two hour wait for the Hecasa flight. The agent told me that he needed another ticket or stub showing that I had paid the excess charges in addition to the receipt. It took me 30 minutes to take care of after going back to American but luckily I did not have to pay more money. 21:00 hrs. Arrived San Jose, Costa Rica. (one hour ahead of Pacific time). 2200 hrs. Check out a Hotel called "Pension Canada" recommended by Mark Halper, but they were full so our initial went to the Hotel Galelana reference to us by Harry Greene. Unfortunately, they had no rooms with three beds, so we took two rooms at $15.00 & $10.00 each. Some good news, the hotel is exchanging dollars at 61 colones to
