0945 hrs Arrived Cuatupan, which is a company town
surrounding a sugar mill about 20 min east of
Berizaba along the old non-toll road. The "mountain"
of interest to Stan and Dave is located behind the town
to the southeast. On the top (east side) there apparently
is a remnant patch of "cloud forest" where a
certain species of Pseudomocia has been taken.
These are needed to compare with other similar salamanders
collected this trip.
1035 hrs. Talked with several people here familiar with
Salamanders from having been hired by other herpetologists
to collect them. Stan and Dave will be accompanied by
three people (one is Carlos Geron) up the Cerrto to collect
salamanders. I will remain near the car at the
base of the hill and set out traps in the afternoon.
1235 hrs Took time to number traps with a Sharpie.
I plan to wait another 2-3 hours to set traps.
1400 hrs Prepared to set traps. Weather was pty cloudy
this morning (ca. 20%), but the clouds moved in completely
by 10:30 and it has been raining since 11:00 hrs.
1540 hrs Returned from setting 60 traps ca. 20 in forest-
(not mature, but with some rotten logs) on ca. 20° slope.
The remainder were placed in secondary brush, vines, and
herbaceous growth.
1600 hrs Stan and Dave collected 6 individuals of the species
they wanted from the mountain. They also collected two
other species (several individuals of each). We have decided
