1000 hrs Took tissue on the five P. melanocarpus (#s 1656-1660)
and 3 P. mexicanus that died during the night (#1653-55).
1105 hrs Broke camp and headed for the summit.
1130 hrs locality at last night's trapping was 5.2 mi NNE (by rd.)
El Machin. This locality if taken from La Esperanza
is ca. 17.4 mi SE (by rd.). It consisted of a pull off on the highway
.7 mi below the summit.
1340 hrs For the last couple of hours we have been driving
toward Oaxaca. We are now stopped at a locality that
is 2.7 mi from the main highway to Oaxaca City. The dirt
road headed right at the summit before winding down
into Oaxaca. The sign for the houses in the area is La Lumber.
1700 hrs. Ed and David have been out collecting salamanders
for the past several hours while I skinned the mice from
this morning and fed the live mice.
1740 hrs After preparing eight mice we left the salamander
locality (Ed and David collected ca. 30) and drove toward
Oaxaca.
1830 hrs Arrived outskirts of Oaxaca and checked in a
motel Costa Rica ($350/night).
2020 hrs Final entry. Tomorrow we will drive to near Puebla.
We have to check on a collecting permit for Ed, and the
proper person is only in his office in Mexico City around 10:30
in the morning. We will leave in the morning and arrive
Mexico City around that time.
