Richardson 1937 Canada Goose (Branta canadensis) June 1, 1937 - SE end Warner Valley, Oregon - Two families of these geese seen, though perhaps the one of 10 young was a combined brood. These 10 half-grown young and parents were surprised by lake's edge - did not take to the water but went farther upon the land into the 'grass' (Sifpus?) There they disappeared from view and were quiet. They must have crouched low for the cover was little over a foot high. The second family of parents and 5 young was also surprised at the edge of the water. One parent and young (still very well and downy) took to the water! The second parent hunched loudly and shortly flew low to a nearby point.
