Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif
March 18 (out)
was dismal, as was telemetry shenanigans. Returned by
2200h.
March 19
0800h- out checking traps on MC. Clear, low 50's. I opened up
all traps as I checked traps. Very good results.
Finished by 0800h. Summary: P.californicus 17 (3 new)
P.tuei 2
P.boylei 7
Peucnathus 2
D.megalotis 1 new
Neotoma 1
TOTAL 30 (3new)
Note that I didn't catch # 1497 who has a radio-collar, nor did
I ever get a signal- I must get back to Beyerhaley, so
I left her with the collar.
Packed up and left Hastings by 0930h.
(staying in Robinson house)
April 11
Arrived back down to Hastings around 1400h. Clear skies, low 80's,
slight breeze - beautiful! All the hills are green, the deciduous
trees(oaks, willows, etc) are leafing out, and there are a fair
number of flowers blooming (doesn't seem like as many
as last year?). Things seem, however, fairly dry. It
looks like summer will hit hard and early this year.
I'll be here until the 16th, hoping to monitor potential
helping behavior via telemetry. I set and baited all
traps on GRID MC (except row 5) from 15-1630h
and all traps on GRID RC from 1730-1830h.
June has switched to Daylight Savings time, so it
didn't get dark until 1930h. I opted to get some
sleep tonight and didn't check traps.
