Riceb.D.O 1990 Journal 3 Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif. Feb 18. It remained partly cloudy and cool all morning. Since I caught so many mice on TC, the new runs for telemetry, and the generally shitty conditions all weekend, I decided to head home this afternoon. Returned to TC and opened up all traps after lunch. Left for Berkeley by 1500h. March 10 Arrived back at Hastings today around 1500h. Spring has definitely begun! The grasses and forbs are all green, the willows are leafing out, some flowers are in bloom, and Finch Creek is running along Camel Valley Rd. I unpacked at the Rod house (Starbach graciously took care of us -) and took off to set traps. Baited and set all traps on Grid TC from 1530-1700h. Also set 6 traps on both east and west drift fences, and scattered 8 Victoria traps across the grid. Next I set most of the traps in Meadow Canyon (MC) before running out of bait and daylight around 1930h. I set all of rows 11,10,9, 8, and about half of 7. The weather this afternoon was cloudy and warm (mid 70s). There is a chance of rain this weekend but these clouds don't look particularly threatening. 2130h - out checking traps on TC. It's mostly cloudy, low 50s. A lot of traps (~10) closed with no animal, and a lot of Victoria (all which I left up traps). Finished by ~2300h. March 11 0630h - out checking traps on MC with Mike (woodpecker full ass day!). It's clear, low 50s (very pleasant). A lot of new TC - no big surprise since it's been ~5 months since I've trapped here. We radio-collared 2 mice this am (see spp acct and telemetry data). Finished by 0830h and proceeded to check traps on Grid TC.
