Rubble D.O. 1990 Journal Hastings Natural History Reservation, Monterey Co, Calif Feb 16 Arrived back at Hastings at 13:15hrs in a driving, windy rainstorm! Just great... To make matters worse I have to stay in the Robinson House because someone is in the cabin temporarily (Tim Halliday from England). Despite the shitty conditions, I suppose the rain is welcome. Spent the afternoon getting organized and waiting for the rain to let up. I went out at 1600h and it was still raining around 40°C. I deliberated and debated, and finally decided to bagit tonight. I should still be able to survey GRIO RC for reproductive info, but the belometry data collection may suffer - I must be getting old and tired, but I reasoned the weather wouldn't worth fighting. Snowlines tonight is between 500-1000ft! Feb 17 Awoke this am to snow on the ridges and "slush" on the Robinson House porch. Maybe it was a good idea not to trap... Around 1000h I migrated to the lab to begin connecting radiotransmitters for use tonight. Had lunch with Janis to discuss fingerprinting. We had a good chat. The rain continued to fall since around 1000h - Mostly [snow days] a slight drizzle, but on occasions it was harder. At 1500h I suited up and went out to RC to set traps. Had to dry each trap with a rag, plus I added cotton cotton wadding before setting. Covered most traps with wood slats. Set all traps on the grid except for now 10(?) traps on the south hill, plus set 7 traps along the west west drift fence and 10 along the east drift fence. Finished around 1730h in a moderate rain, ~40°C.
