RIBBLE, D.D. 1989 PEROMYSCUS CALIFORNICUS Capture - rt cage Cage 4 Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif. ♀ 1441 ♂ # 1410 Feb 19 1500h - cleaned cage and put this pair with ♂180(1492) in Yz side of enclosure. 1441 - 53g, pregnant 1410 - 32.5g, TD 0100 - ear-tagged #1492 - 19g. 04 - ear-tagged #1493 - 21g. - put in enclosure w/♂ # 1476 Feb 22 0900h - 1441 still pregnant 1492-21g. Collected tissues. Feb 26 1441 - still pregnant Feb 27 1800h - Parturition - 3 offspring, look like 2♂, 1♀. Feb 28 1130h - 1441 - rump. #04, ♂ 4g. ✔ 040, ♂ 4.2g. 0400 ♀. 41g. ✔ March 4 - see acct for 1493-1476 - balances fine March 9 - see acct for 1493-1476 - balances missing! March 10 This am I searched the cage and found babies #040 & 04000 dead in the nest box. Both of them had their heads chewed on from the rootum to the braincase, with most of the brains missing. It looks like the carcasses were bloated and rotting, so they must have been dead for several days. Collected tails and legs for possible DNA work. March 13 1441 - 55g. 1492-35g SAD. Put in plastic cage - later transferred to left side 38g, TD. March 14. ♀1441 - 49.5g. Perfetate April 2 - Gave birth to 3 young today! all 3 babies = 13.0g April 3 Perf ♂ 55g. 2♂, 1♀ ?? 35.5g. TD
