The powerline road near Ft. Piute was completely washed out by Piute Wash. Ft. Piute itself looked like a river bed full of rocks and gravel. All the undergrowth was removed - cattails, Baccharis and small willows all gone - only the larger shrubs and trees remained and even some of those were toppled. The clearing was so extensive that areas which were at one time near impenetrable undergrowth were now completely open and easy walking. The cotton woods were not harmed. Time: 0800-1200 (walk in from powerline road) Observers: Linda Hale, Jon Dunn, Steve Cardiff, Sid England.
