Passerella iliaca
Sept. 10 Tilden Park, Contra Costa Co., Calif.: 2 around w. side
of Jewel Lake. Very early fall arrivals. Large sparrow,
all uniform dark brown upperparts without any markings,
yellow lower mandible, blotched breast, sharp rich call.
Oct. 22 East Mojave Desert, San Bernardino Co., Calif.: 1 collected at
Ft. Piute which was a very reddish bird - an Eastern race,
probably iliaca. Specimen to San Bernardino Co. Museum
