Remsen, J.V. 1977 Harris' Sparrow Zonotrichia querula Apr. 23 Santa Barbara area, Santa Barbara Co., Calif.: 1 h.o.n'y near Goleta at a feeder where it had wintered. The bird sang back and forth with me, responding to my imitations, but would never come out of the dense undergrowth - we never did see the bird. Most of the song phrases given were 3 note, monotone, high-pitched whistles similar in quality to the song of White-throated Sparrow. As an introduction to another richer song, it gave perfect imitations of House Sparrow calls. Nov. 23 Furnace Creek Ranch, Inyo Co., Calif.: 2
