Remsen, J.V. 1977 Summer Tanager Piranga rubra May 30 Deep Springs, Inyo Co. Calif.: 1 ♀ - a peculiar bird because its face was somewhat grayish and its bill dusty. However, it was definitely not r Hepatic - it was greenish yellow, lacking the orange tinge of Hepatic; the fore was not sharply divided from the throat or crown, but blended together gradually; the bill was not large and long enough for Hepatic; yellowish all the way to belly (Hepatic not so extensively yellow underneath). May 31 Deep Springs: 1 ♀ (same bird) June 24 Cadiz, San Bernardino Co. Calif.: 1 ♀ - late spring or early fall migrant? This was a very dingy looking bird - very gray head and breast - the only yellow was on the belly. The bill was also not all pale - culmen was dark. Sept. 17 Tijuana River Valley, San Diego Co. Calif: 1 ad.♂ - Wendover Ranch Sept. 19 Tijuana River Valley: 1 ad.♂ - 200 yds N of "The Clump" - different bird from Sept.17
