Blackburnian Warbler
Dendroica fusca
Sept. 17 Tijuana River Valley, San Diego Co., Calif.: 1 imm. ♀ at
Otay Mesa. An extremely dull bird without much face
pattern and in general resembling a fall Blackpoll; however,
the eyeline was much more distinct, prominent, broad, and
long; the wingbars seemed bolder; the yellow on the throat
and breast was brighter; proportions different - a shorter
and smaller bird than a Blackpoll; and of course there were
two broad pale stripes on the back - pattern of Pectoral
Sandpiper.
