Remsen, J.V. 1977 Chimney Swift Chaetura pelagica June 19 South Coast Botanical Gardens, Los Angeles Co., Calif.: 2 here when found June 16 by Linda Hale. We had just entered through the gates when I heard the birds twittering overhead and turned around to see 2 birds. They were not heard again, but we watched them for 10-15 minutes feeding overhead. In comparison to Vaux's Swift, these birds looked longer winged, darker-throated (although still the palest part of the plumage), and spent a greater percentage of the time gliding rather than flapping.
