Remsen, J.V. 1977 Bewick's Swan Olor bewicHii Dec.23 Victoria Island, San Joaquin Co., Calif.: 1 ad. seen in flock of 4500 Whistling Swans 3.0 mi. E of Contra Costa Co. line where found Dec. 21. It took an hour to pick out the Bewick's among the many feeding and sleeping swans. gleaming lemon yellow The bird looked identical to Whistling Swan in color, body size, body proportions, and bill shape, differing only in the amount of yellow on the bill. At least one apparent hybrid was seen which had more yellow than a Whistling Swan's teardrop but lacked the full yellow patch of Bewick's. underside of bill of Bewick's Swan
