De Benedicts 1966 Larus hyperboreus 15 May Barrow, Alaska - Saw one adult circling over the exposed gravel along the Church. Saw; it didn't stay around long. 16 May F. Durhan said he had seen one at the point 1 or 2 days ago. 19 May An all-white bird seen at the bar. 12 replied by the microwell people - on Family hogson. 20 May Two together behind the bar, an ad. and a 2nd year bird. 21 May about 2 with Tchayei's Gulls along the edge of the pack ice about noon. 23 May → Meade River Coal Mine, Alaska. Saw 4 or 5 birds near camp today from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. They didn't seem to stay around long, however. 25 May A large group assembled in a lake bed N of camp. Yesterday I saw one attacking a small brown animal that acted like a Lemmus. 27 May A few seen near camp but the big group sitting in a snow-covered lake bed a distance from camp. They are very shy and get up when I am a quarter mile away. All the birds blue seem to be adults, but some look like they might be Tchayei instead of this species, as I have still not been able to get a good look at them. 29 May Gulls flying about and now very vocal, but no large groups seen anywhere, and none on the ground today.
