Stercorarius longicaudus Macke River Cool Muis, 157°25'W, 70°29'N, Alaska 10-11 June A few along the river and near the village. Fight now, the Parasites seem to be getting the Beets of things. Saw a (3) in terrific flight, calling as it went, near the mouth of South creek on Afternoon of June 11. Only adults around now. 12 June A pair on the knuckle near the 1st lake on village creek, one off after an intruder which came by, but no territorial flight. Not many along the river anymore. 16 June Less in evidence but still occ. pair along the river. Not vocal and seldom near the village. 17 June A pair landed on the knuckle W of the village, allowed very close approach. A few flying over, but some lone birds evident and none seen recently attached to any area. 18 June 4 birds together on the village flats, no individuals. A fight with Parasitic (10 of each) over the village S. 19 June I saw one landed on the census plot acting like it was going to squintulate. The neck was inflated and the bird arched the neck, head down. It did this 3-4 times and then disappeared into a depression. I went up to it to find a pied Sandpiper with wet egg and a partly broken shell nearby. The jay was in the area in the covey, but 4 hrs. later hadn't finished direct - neck swollen
