Stercorarius parvus 17 June Meade River Coal Mine, 150025',70029'N, Alaska Went out to the nest, which we couldn't find, and got a show like yesterday when we approached. The birds flying over and giving distraction display. The f seldom close together, acting in unison. This pair must range over a large area. 18 June One fighting with a long-tail Taegu in the village 19 June One chasing a h-Tail over the cemus plot for two birds about evenly matched, and the fight undecided until the L-T. flew off. The Parus [illegible] seen on the cemus plot. A ?B with bluffs 2mi. Sofcap. 20 June A pair SW of the village as usual. 21 June The pair S of camp seen hunting over the cemus plot much of the A.11. Their style is very characteristic. They seem 6-10 feet up going slowly with little wing beat; the head pointed down and ahead and occasionally looking prowed. When they see something interesting they circle back over an area without hovering. A number bird will come a run area of ~20 acres at a [illegible] back and forth over strip ~20 yard apart. They seem to be looking for shorebird nest. The light bird ate both remaining eggs of the Pekaral not on the plot, and was then chased off by a L-T. Taegu. This bird returned in the afternoon about 2PM and spent about 10 minutes circling over the area before leaving the cemus plot for the day. See S. longicaudis
