P. De Benedicts 1965 Least Weasel 29 July Before Alaska - cause dorm and dropped the weasel, which immediately attracted the jaegers, and this was repeated 4 times, the weasel clearly being overcome and the jaegers staying closer in and becoming less hesitant to attack. The 7 jaeger stayed near the 4 but did not assist in the "kill" and after the 1st time the weasel was dropped the jaegers from the pair to the north came in and tried to "horn in"; it was not closed off until after it had a half minute or so period to get at the weasel which was on the ground fending off the jaegers. At the 2nd time. After the 7 jaeger got the weasel, her mate chased the intruder away. The 3rd time the weasel was dropped a jaeger from another pair (a non-breeder) appeared and was immediately closed off. The 4th time the weasel was dropped, she (the weasel) got away, and the jaegers flew away without attempting to pick up the weasel; they apparently chased an intruder on their territory instead. I went to the spot where the weasel was dropped and found nothing. There were no more young in the hole whence she got the 3 and the last young morsel was caught and released. It barked a loud, rough "yaff-yaff" when cornered and attempted clumsily to defend itself. When the 4 appeared after the jaegers got the 1st two young she appeared to be searching for them, running actively in and out between us completely; after the 3 young were found, she moved very rapidly and
